Beaver Sleepover at Thriftwood

This weekend saw our annual Spring sleepover with 1st Doddinghurst at Thriftwood Scout Camp.

The Beavers were there to complete their Outdoor Challenge by conquering the bouldering wall, pitching a tent, lighting some fires, sleeping in Barcwood cabin with some fellow Beavers and exploring the Scout Camp.

Some very tired and muddy Beavers went home this morning, hopefully happy with their adventure this weekend.

They all did a fantastic job and made some new friends.

This afternoon the Beavers braved the mud and puddles to have some fun down by the lake at Thriftwood.

They skilfully crafted and decorated their boats in order to create our own Jubilee flotilla.

Despite a few sinking and one soggy foot, everyone had a brilliant time.

Renewal of Promise Fun Day

On Sunday, Beavers from across the Brentwood District gathered together to celebrate St Georges Day by having a Fun Day at Thriftwood Scout Camp.

They took part in a wonderful variety of activities, including jousting, a crossbow challenge, making musical instruments, making Jubilee cakes, a forest code-breaking challenge and many more.

We had the chance to picnic with our Cubs and Scouts who were also on site for a District camp and then finished the day by all coming together for a special Renewal of Promise service at the camp fire circle.

A brilliant day for everyone. Well done to all of the organisers and thank you to the weather for staying nice!

Fundraising for Shelter Box

During the last half term, the Beavers took on the challenge to raise money for the disaster relief organisation, Shelter Box. They all did extra chores, good deeds or donated some of their pocket money to raise a wonderful £70.00.

Our donation will be put together with other donations to pay for a Shelter Box that will be sent overseas to help a family during a time of natural or man-made disaster.

Chicken Run?

On Sunday, Asst Beaver Scout Leader Eagle joined hundreds of other keen runners to take part in the Brentwood Fun Run. Eagle kitted up in a parrot suit and flew around the course in a cracking time . Despite supporters thinking he was a chicken, he held his beak high and pecked his way through the flocks of runners to raise money for our Group. Well done and thank you Eagle.

A taste of Mexico

This week the Beavers got a taste of life in Mexico. One of our parents kindly ran a programme all about her home country, giving the beavers a chance to play traditional Spanish games, try speaking the language and bake some home-made Quesadilla (cheesy tortillas).

It was such a packed programme that we ran out of time to meet the music man and pull the piñata, but hopefully we can do that another day….

Beavers Dragon Boat Racing

Last week the Beavers were celebrating the Chinese New Year of the Dragon. They took on a chop stick challenge, sent some unusual messages with Chinese Whispers and had great fun on our indoor dragon boat!

You know, building an aircraft is harder than you think! That Aeronautical Badge is hard work!

Above is the “easy” model after approx 2 hours of construction from one of the Scout Patrols. If we continue at this speed, maybe it will be finished and ready to fly by 2020. If we’re lucky!

Beaver End of Term Presentations

Tuesday 6th December saw our last meeting for 2011. The children performed our Beaver version of the ’12 days of Christmas’ and all of the children received badges after a great term of hard work and fun. Now it’s over to the mum’s and nan’s to get them all sewn on before we go back in January!

Huge thanks must go out to all of the Beaver leaders and parents who helped out during this last term. It is very much appreciated by myself and the children.

Have a very happy Christmas and see you all in the New Year.
