Last week the Beavers were celebrating the Chinese New Year of the Dragon. They took on a chop stick challenge, sent some unusual messages with Chinese Whispers and had great fun on our indoor dragon boat!

You know, building an aircraft is harder than you think! That Aeronautical Badge is hard work!

Above is the “easy” model after approx 2 hours of construction from one of the Scout Patrols. If we continue at this speed, maybe it will be finished and ready to fly by 2020. If we’re lucky!

Beaver End of Term Presentations

Tuesday 6th December saw our last meeting for 2011. The children performed our Beaver version of the ’12 days of Christmas’ and all of the children received badges after a great term of hard work and fun. Now it’s over to the mum’s and nan’s to get them all sewn on before we go back in January!

Huge thanks must go out to all of the Beaver leaders and parents who helped out during this last term. It is very much appreciated by myself and the children.

Have a very happy Christmas and see you all in the New Year.

Last night the Scouts planned and practised their Gang-Show sketches ready for next week. Each Patrol has planned something funny that should involve all members and be great fun to watch. I know that the group that I was helping are going to be acting out an episode of Harry Hill’s TV Burp. For those who haven’t seen it, check out the videos below:

Sainsburys Active Kids kit being put to good use…

Last Tuesday the Beavers started working towards their Healthy Eating activity badge by making some triple decker sandwiches. They put the newly arrived Active Kids aprons to good use as they buttered and filled their sarnies to the brim. They then made some spotty biscuits in aid of BBC’s Children in Need Show your Spots campaign.

Beavers at the Science Museum

On Saturday 12th November our Beavers took part in a District trip to the Science Museum in London. Everyone got hands-on in the Launch Pad area and had great fun experimenting with shadows, splitting light, water pressure, magnets, wave electricity, thermal imaging and circuits. We also had time to explore the exhibits and take a look at all things mechanical and space exploration. Everyone had a great time and it gave all our budding scientists a chance to get stuck in…well done everybody

Scouts Cancelled – not by choice!

It was a real shame that we had to cancel last nights Scout meeting.

Sadly, there was no-one available at Thriftwood to let us into the building that we had booked with them, so after waiting around for about an hour, and “checking for life” at the Thriftwood main office we just gave up and the scouts all went home.

We’d got an excellent activity planned and so we will now have to work hard to fit this into the remaining evenings we have this term. We’ll get by i’m sure as 3rd Brentwood as a group have become pretty good at that, but thanks a million Thriftwood!

Bowling at Hollywood Bowl

As an end of term “special” 3rd Brentwood Scout Troop went to Hollywood Bowl in Basildon last night for a few games of bowling.

We occupied three lanes and caused utter chaos. Lane One was filled with the older Scouts, and even though they used the “bumpers” some good shots were still seen every now and then.

Lane two was occupied by the younger scouts who scored very well but using the bumpers to full effect. I cant imagine a single pin would have been knocked over without those bumpers!

Finally, the “leaders lane” saw some excellent bowling. Scott (me!) scored 176 (or was it 173?) hammering all of the other leaders in the first game. Not to be out-done, Bruce then followed up by scoring 175, finishing off his amazing round with four strikes in a row. Oh, and I hope that it goes without saying the leaders lane did not have the bumpers up!
